Lot overview

Arabica from the Batur slopes at 1,200 to 1,600 m, grown in gardens intercropped with citrus and processed at cooperative wet mills. Sweet, mild, and gently citric with a lighter body than Sumatra, certified Organic to EU and NOP rules and Fairtrade. The crop is allocated in half container lots, with Grade 1 taken for single origin work and the lower grades quoted for blends.

Cup profile and roasting

Lighter and sweeter than the wet hulled Indonesian coffees, with soft citrus acidity, mild body, and a clean finish at 84 to 86 points. It suits a medium roast and works as an approachable single origin for buyers whose customers find Sumatra too heavy, or as the softening element in a blend built on Gayo or Toraja.

Certification through the subak abian

The subak abian is Bali's traditional irrigation cooperative, and it functions as a natural certification unit with shared rules, shared processing, and shared records. Lots ship under Organic to EU and NOP rules and under Fairtrade, with the transaction certificate number attached. Certified volume is committed at harvest, so book several months before you need the coffee on pack.

Allocation, packing, and shipping

Minimum order is a half container, 9.6 MT or 160 bags of 60 kg with GrainPro liners, per grade, because Bali's crop is small and allocated rather than sold from open stock. Coffee moves by road and ferry to Surabaya or Jakarta for stuffing, giving a three to four week lead time. Harvest runs May to September.

Grades we quote on this arabica

Grade is a defect count, not a different coffee. The same island lot is offered from Grade 1 down to Grade 6 under SNI 01-2907, so tell us the row your roast and your cost line need and we quote against it. Specialty lots are graded on the SCA table as well, and the grade you contract is printed on the grading sheet that travels with the container.

Which grades of Bali arabica are allocated?

All six, but the certified Organic and Fairtrade pool is small and is committed at Grade 1 and 2 first, so lower grades are quoted from the uncertified balance of the crop. The minimum is half a container of 9.6 MT per grade. Because the crop is allocated rather than sold from stock, tell us the grade and the volume before the May to September harvest.

How does Bali arabica taste next to Sumatran coffee?

Much lighter and sweeter, with soft citrus acidity and a mild body, 84 to 86 points at Grade 1, where a wet hulled Sumatran is heavy, savoury, and almost acid free. Buyers whose customers find Indonesian coffee too earthy usually land on Kintamani, and it works well as the softening component in a heavier blend.

How much Bali green coffee can you allocate per buyer?

Bali's crop is small, so we allocate rather than sell from open stock. The practical minimum is a half container of 9.6 MT per grade and most buyers take between that and a full container per season. Larger standing volume is agreed at harvest, and certified allocations at the top grades are committed earliest.

Which port does Bali coffee ship from?

Coffee moves by road and ferry from Kintamani to Surabaya or Jakarta, where it is stuffed into a kraft-lined dry container with desiccant. That routing adds a few days over a Java lot but keeps the widest choice of direct sailings to Europe, North Asia, and the Gulf. Lead time is three to four weeks.
