Lot overview

Arabica from old estate blocks on the Ijen plateau between 1,400 and 1,800 m, pulped, fermented around 18 hours, washed, and dried with a mechanical finish. Clean, nutty, and mildly sweet, with the tightest screen distribution we handle. Because the estates process to one standard, the difference between grades here is almost purely the defect count: Grade 1 cups 83 to 85 points, and the lower grades are taken as blend volume.

Cup profile and roasting

Clean and nutty with mild sweetness, gentle acidity, and a fuller body than a washed Central American at the same 83 to 85 point band. Because the screen distribution is narrow, the roast develops evenly and a profile approved on a sample batch repeats in production. Blenders use it as the stable component under more characterful Indonesian lots.

Grading and consistency

Cherry from organised estate blocks is processed to one standard rather than gathered from many small mills, which is the real source of the consistency here. A 300 g sample sets the grade under SNI 01-2907, from 11 defect values or fewer at Grade 1 down to 151 to 225 at Grade 6, and specialty lots carry the SCA full defect count as well. Screen retention is measured on sieves, moisture is held at 10.5 to 12.0%, and two Q Graders cup the sample before the coffee is offered.

Packing, minimum, and shipping

60 kg jute bags with GrainPro liner, 320 bags to a 20 ft container at 19.2 MT, minimum one container, loaded through Tanjung Priok in Jakarta or Tanjung Perak in Surabaya. Harvest runs June to October and lead time is three to four weeks from contract, among the fastest on our list because the growing area is close to both ports.

Grades we quote on this arabica

Grade is a defect count, not a different coffee. The same island lot is offered from Grade 1 down to Grade 6 under SNI 01-2907, so tell us the row your roast and your cost line need and we quote against it. Specialty lots are graded on the SCA table as well, and the grade you contract is printed on the grading sheet that travels with the container.

Which grades does this washed Java arabica ship in?

Grade 1 through Grade 6. Because the estate blocks all process to one standard, the grade here is close to a pure defect count rather than a different coffee: Grade 1 at 11 defect values or fewer keeps the screen 17 up uniformity that makes a roast curve repeat, while Grade 3 and below are taken as blend volume. Screen 16 up is available at any grade on request.

What screen size does this Java arabica lot hold?

Screen 17 and above at 90% retention, measured on sieves rather than estimated, which is the largest and most uniform bean size on our offer list. Uniform size is what keeps a roast curve repeatable, because mixed screens develop at different rates and force a compromise between scorched small beans and underdeveloped large ones.

Why do blenders choose this washed Java coffee?

Because it is the most predictable coffee we carry. Estate blocks process to one standard, the screen distribution is narrow, and the cup is clean and nutty at 83 to 85 points on Grade 1 without a dominant character. It gives a blend structure and consistency at whichever grade the recipe is costed at, while a wet hulled Sumatran or Sulawesi lot supplies the body.

Which certification programmes cover the Ijen lots?

Rainforest Alliance and 4C on the producer group certificate, with ISO 22000 covering our Jakarta warehouse and grading operation. The transaction certificate number travels with the shipment. Certified volume is allocated at harvest, so contracts should be placed before the June to October picking window.

What moisture does this washed green coffee arrive at?

10.5 to 12.0%, verified on a calibrated meter after the mechanical drying finish and checked again in Jakarta before stuffing. It ships GrainPro-lined inside a kraft-lined dry container with desiccant and a moisture indicator card, never in a reefer, since condensation rather than heat is what damages coffee at sea.
