Lot overview
Smallholder arabica from northern Sumatra, pulped the day it is picked and wet hulled at 30 to 50% moisture (giling basah). Same growing areas and mills at every grade; defect count sets the grade from 1 to 6.
Cup profile and roasting
Heavy syrupy body, very low acidity, and a savoury base of cedar, tobacco, and forest floor with dark cocoa underneath. It takes a medium to dark roast well and stays sweet where a washed coffee of the same score would thin out. Roasters use it as the weight in an espresso blend, as a dark roast single origin, and wherever a filter blend needs body rather than brightness.
How the grade is decided
Every lot is re-dried at the partner mill to 11 to 12.5% moisture, hulled, then density and screen sorted before a 300 g sample is counted in Jakarta. That count sets the grade: 11 defect values or fewer is Grade 1, and the ladder runs down to 151 to 225 at Grade 6. Wet hulled coffee needs the sorting more than washed coffee does, because hulling a soft bean creates damage that only sorting removes. Specialty buyers get the SCA full defect count alongside the SNI figure, and the grade you contracted is printed on the grading sheet that ships with the container.
Packing, minimum, and shipping
Packed in 60 kg jute bags with a GrainPro liner, 320 bags to a 20 ft container at 19.2 MT, loaded with desiccant and a moisture indicator card in a kraft-lined dry container. Minimum order is one container per grade, and two grades can share a booking when each share is a sensible pallet volume. Loading is through Belawan, or Tanjung Priok in Jakarta if the booking consolidates several islands. Lead time is three to four weeks from contract.
Grades we quote on this arabica
Grade is a defect count, not a different coffee. The same island lot is offered from Grade 1 down to Grade 6 under SNI 01-2907, so tell us the row your roast and your cost line need and we quote against it. Specialty lots are graded on the SCA table as well, and the grade you contract is printed on the grading sheet that travels with the container.

Frequently asked questions
Ordering, samples, shipping, and payment.
Which grades of Sumatra arabica green coffee can I order?
All six. Grade 1 at 11 defect values or fewer per 300 g is what single origin roasters take and what cups 84 to 86 points. Grade 2 and 3 go into premium blends, and Grade 4 to 6 are bought for volume blending and extraction. It is one coffee from the same mills sorted to different defect counts, so the character stays recognisable while the price and the hand pick rate change. Minimum is one 20 ft container per grade.
What is the minimum order for Sumatra arabica green coffee?
One 20 ft container per grade, 19.2 MT or 320 bags of 60 kg with GrainPro liners. Larger season contracts are booked before the October to February harvest. A container can be split between two grades, or with a second island lot, if each share is a sensible pallet volume, and the packing list then shows the split by bag count.
How does this Sumatra coffee roast and cup?
Heavy bodied and low in acidity, with cedar, tobacco, forest floor, and dark cocoa, scoring 84 to 86 points at Grade 1. It holds sweetness into a medium dark roast, which is why it is used as the weight in espresso blends and as a dark roast single origin. Ask for the 300 g sample of the grade you are considering before committing, because the profile is divisive.
Which certifications does the Sumatran arabica ship under?
Rainforest Alliance on the producer group certificate, plus ISO 22000 covering our Jakarta warehouse and grading operation and Halal (BPJPH). The transaction certificate number travels with the shipment. Certified volume is contracted at Grade 1 and 2 first, so lower grades are quoted from the uncertified balance. Organic Gayo can be sourced on request with a longer lead time.
When is fresh crop Gayo available for shipment?
The main harvest runs October to February with a smaller mid-year crop, so fresh crop normally ships from December onward. Moisture is verified at 11 to 12.5% after re-drying and again before stuffing, and the crop year is stated on the grading sheet so you always know how old the coffee in the container is.
