Lot overview

Sun dried robusta from Lampung and South Sumatra at 300 to 800 m, machine hulled and polished, screened to 16 up for EK-1 contracts or 13 up for blend volume. The defect grade is contracted separately from the screen: Grade 1 and 2 for espresso blends and premium soluble, 4a and 4b for the extraction volume most of this coffee ships as.

Who buys this lot

Soluble and liquid extract manufacturers buying on yield, who normally take 4a or 4b, and roasters adding ten to thirty percent robusta to an espresso blend for body and crema, who take Grade 1 or 2 screened 16 up. Lampung is heavy and low in acid rather than sharply rubbery, which is why it blends without dominating. It is also our fastest coffee to ship, because the volume is always there.

How the grade and the screen are set

Grade comes from the 300 g defect count under SNI 01-2907, from 11 defect values or fewer at Grade 1 down to 151 to 225 at Grade 6. Screen retention is measured separately on sieves, which is why EK-1 screen 16 up can be contracted at more than one grade. Foreign matter is removed on gravity tables and by density and colour sorting. Moisture is brought to 12.5% maximum at the mill and confirmed on a calibrated meter in Jakarta before the container is stuffed, and both figures are printed on the grading sheet.

Packing, minimum, and shipping

60 kg jute bags with a container liner and desiccant, 320 bags to a 20 ft container at 19.2 MT, minimum one container per grade, with recurring monthly volume contracted against the London robusta futures market plus a differential. Loading is through Panjang or Belawan on Sumatra, or Tanjung Priok in Jakarta for consolidated bookings. Lead time is two to three weeks.

Robusta runs the same SNI 01-2907 defect ladder as arabica, with Grade 4 split into 4a and 4b because that is where most export volume trades. Screen size is contracted separately from grade, so any row below can ship screen 13 up or screen 16 up depending on what your roaster or extraction line is set for.

Which grades and screens does this Sumatra robusta ship in?

Every grade from 1 to 6, including the 4a and 4b split, and the screen is contracted separately. EK-1 is the Indonesian export screen designation, screen 16 and above at 90% retention, and it is not a defect grade: this coffee can ship EK-1 at Grade 1 or at 4b. Both figures go on the contract and the grading sheet, because a coffee can pass one and fail the other.

Can this Sumatra robusta support monthly contract volume?

Yes, it is the deepest volume coffee we carry and most buyers take it on a season contract with a monthly shipment schedule rather than as spot containers. Lead time is two to three weeks from contract. Tell us monthly tonnage, the grade and screen you accept, and the discharge port, and we come back with a schedule and a differential.

What caffeine content does Lampung robusta green coffee carry?

2.2 to 2.7% on a dry basis, second only to our Kolaka lot from Sulawesi. Laboratory analysis on the specific lot can be provided for extraction and soluble contracts where yield per tonne drives the buying decision. Moisture at 12.5% maximum is verified before stuffing for the same reason.

How is this robusta priced against the futures market?

Against the London robusta contract plus a differential that reflects island, screen, and defect grade, fixed either at contract or by a price-to-be-fixed clause tied to a named futures month. Moving from Grade 1 to 4a is a differential change on the same contract structure. Payment terms are agreed per contract, typically an irrevocable letter of credit at sight or telegraphic transfer against documents.
