Lot overview
Screen 17 up washed Ijen green roasted to Agtron whole bean 46 to 58, where the clean nutty profile turns into caramel and dark chocolate with the sweetness espresso needs. Whole bean or ground to espresso and moka, private label or unbranded, with the green grade named on the contract alongside the roast target.
The roast and how it cups
Agtron whole bean 46 to 58, with 48 to 52 as our default, taken past first crack far enough to build caramel and dark chocolate while keeping the clean washed character underneath. It pulls sweet and balanced as a single origin espresso on Grade 1 green, and it is the arabica base most of our blend customers use before adding robusta for crema.
Using it in an espresso blend
Most espresso programmes built on this coffee run seventy to ninety percent Java arabica with the balance in robusta. We blend before roasting or after, whichever your recipe needs, and hold the finished recipe as a named profile with a fixed green allocation so the second production run tastes like the first. Blend components are stated on the specification sheet.
Packaging, minimum, and lead time
1 kg one-way valve bags in 12 kg cartons, or 5 kg foil for wholesale grinding, with 12 months unopened shelf life. Minimum 500 kg per roast profile and grade, lead time two to three weeks, dispatch within seven days of roast. Cafe and HORECA buyers usually settle on one grade, one grind, and one profile before adding formats.
Grades we quote on this arabica
Grade is a defect count, not a different coffee. The same island lot is offered from Grade 1 down to Grade 6 under SNI 01-2907, so tell us the row your roast and your cost line need and we quote against it. Specialty lots are graded on the SCA table as well, and the grade you contract is printed on the grading sheet that travels with the container.
| Grade | Defect value per 300 g | What buyers use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 1 | 11 maximum | Grade 1: single origin roasting, screen 16 up, cupped 83 to 87 |
| Grade 2 | 12 to 25 | Grade 2: retail and horeca blends, 12 to 25 defect values |
| Grade 3 | 26 to 44 | Grade 3: volume blends, 26 to 44 defect values |
| Grade 4 | 45 to 80 | Grade 4: house blends, 45 to 80 defect values |
| Grade 5 | 81 to 150 | Soluble, liquid extract, and ready to drink production |
| Grade 6 | 151 to 225 | Extraction and industrial use, where the cup is rebuilt after processing |
Frequently asked questions
Ordering, samples, shipping, and payment.
Can you roast a lower grade of Java arabica for a blend?
Yes. Grade 1 is the default for single origin espresso, but blend bases are usually roasted from Grade 2 to 4, where a medium dark curve at Agtron 46 to 58 absorbs the extra defect count and the cost per kilo drops noticeably. Send the grade with the target Agtron and we hold both together as one named profile.
Is this Java roast suitable for single origin espresso?
Yes, that is what the medium dark profile at Agtron 48 to 52 is built for. The washed Ijen green is clean and nutty, and taking it to that level adds caramel and dark chocolate sweetness that holds up under nine bar pressure without the roast bitterness a darker profile brings.
Can you blend this arabica with robusta before shipping?
Yes. Most espresso recipes we produce run seventy to ninety percent of this arabica with Java or Lampung robusta for body and crema. We blend before or after roasting to suit the recipe, fix the green allocation, and hold it as a named profile so repeat runs match. Components are listed on the specification sheet.
What is the minimum order for roasted Java arabica?
500 kg per roast profile and grade, and each blend recipe counts as its own profile rather than the order counting as one. Lead time is two to three weeks. Sample roasts of 1 to 2 kg ship by air first so the profile is approved before a production batch is scheduled.
What shelf life does the roasted coffee carry?
12 months unopened in one-way valve foil, with roast date and lot number on every bag. Coffee is dispatched within seven days of roast, so sea freight to Europe or the Middle East leaves the majority of that window intact on arrival. Ground coffee keeps the same rating but loses aroma faster after opening.
