Lot overview
Sun dried robusta from Manggarai on Flores and from Lombok at 400 to 800 m, hulled in the village and re-dried at our mill to 12.5% moisture maximum before it is screened and counted. Taken mostly as a second or third robusta origin for supply security alongside Sumatra and Java, graded to whatever the buyer already runs.
Who buys this lot
Buyers who already run Lampung as their main robusta line and want a second or third origin so that a regional crop failure, a port disruption, or a certification issue does not stop production. The cup is not markedly different from other Indonesian robusta, and that is the point: this lot is bought for continuity rather than for character.
Re-drying and grading
Coffee arrives hulled from village processing at variable moisture, so it is re-dried at our mill to 12.5% maximum before anything else happens to it. It is then screen sorted at 13 up and counted at 300 g to set the grade under SNI 01-2907, from 11 defect values or fewer at Grade 1 to 151 to 225 at Grade 6, and checked again on a calibrated moisture meter in Jakarta before stuffing.
Allocation, packing, and shipping
60 kg jute bags with container liner and desiccant, minimum a half container at 9.6 MT or 160 bags per grade. Coffee moves by inter-island vessel from Flores or Lombok before it is graded and stuffed, so lead time is four to five weeks, the longest on our list. Harvest runs May to August.
Grades we quote on this robusta
Robusta runs the same SNI 01-2907 defect ladder as arabica, with Grade 4 split into 4a and 4b because that is where most export volume trades. Screen size is contracted separately from grade, so any row below can ship screen 13 up or screen 16 up depending on what your roaster or extraction line is set for.
| Grade | Defect value per 300 g | What buyers use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 1 | 11 maximum | Espresso blends and premium soluble, normally taken screen 16 up |
| Grade 2 | 12 to 25 | Standard espresso and roast and ground blends for retail |
| Grade 3 | 26 to 44 | Volume blends, vending, and three in one mixes |
| Grade 4a | 45 to 60 | Grade 4a: soluble and extract, 45 to 60 defect values |
| Grade 4b | 61 to 80 | Soluble and instant production where yield matters more than cup |
| Grade 5 | 81 to 150 | Liquid coffee extract and low cost instant lines |
| Grade 6 | 151 to 225 | Industrial extraction, caffeine recovery, and non beverage use |
Frequently asked questions
Ordering, samples, shipping, and payment.
Can this second origin match the grade I already buy?
Yes, and that is the point of qualifying it. Whatever grade you run on Sumatra or Java, from Grade 1 to 4b, we count the Manggarai and Lombok coffee to the same SNI 01-2907 standard and ship it on the same paperwork, so a substitution mid contract is a scheduling decision. Volume per grade is limited and the minimum is half a container of 9.6 MT.
Why is this Nusa Tenggara robusta re-dried at your mill?
Because it arrives hulled from village processing at variable moisture, sometimes well above export limits. Re-drying to 12.5% maximum before grading is what makes the lot storable and shippable, and moisture is verified again on a calibrated meter in Jakarta before the container is stuffed.
Why does this lot take four to five weeks to ship?
It moves by inter-island vessel from Flores or Lombok to Java before it is re-dried, graded, and stuffed, and those sailings are less frequent than mainland trucking. It is the longest lead time on our offer list, so buyers who need it should plan the buying calendar rather than order against an urgent gap.
Why take Nusa Tenggara robusta rather than Sumatran?
For supply security rather than a different cup. Buyers running Lampung as their primary line add this coffee as a second or third origin so a regional crop, port, or certification problem does not stop production. It is counted against the same SNI 01-2907 ladder at whatever grade you specify and ships on the same paperwork.
How much Manggarai robusta can be contracted per season?
Limited volume, allocated from a small harvest between May and August, with a half container minimum of 9.6 MT. Buyers who want it every season should contract forward rather than expect spot availability, particularly if the volume is meant to cover a specific supply security requirement.
