Lot overview
Manggarai and Lombok green, re-dried at our mill, roasted at Agtron whole bean 44 to 54 for buyers who want a robusta blend base from a second island. Ground to espresso or vending, packed in 1 kg valve bags at a 500 kg minimum per roast profile and grade.
The roast and where it is used
Agtron whole bean 44 to 54, a middle position that suits blends selling into markets where a very dark robusta reads as burnt. The cup is clean and heavy rather than distinctive, which is what a blend base should be: the arabica carries the character and this carries the body.
Why buyers take a second island
Roasted programmes fail when a single green origin has a crop or logistics problem mid contract. Buyers running Lampung or Java robusta as the base of a recipe qualify this lot as an approved alternate, cup it side by side, and keep both profiles on file so a substitution is a scheduling decision rather than a new product approval.
Packaging, minimum, and lead time
1 kg one-way valve bags in 12 kg cartons, 12 months unopened shelf life, roast date and lot number on the bag. Minimum is 500 kg per roast profile and grade because island volume is allocated, and lead time is three to four weeks since the green travels by inter-island vessel before roasting.
Grades we quote on this robusta
Robusta runs the same SNI 01-2907 defect ladder as arabica, with Grade 4 split into 4a and 4b because that is where most export volume trades. Screen size is contracted separately from grade, so any row below can ship screen 13 up or screen 16 up depending on what your roaster or extraction line is set for.
| Grade | Defect value per 300 g | What buyers use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 1 | 11 maximum | Espresso blends and premium soluble, normally taken screen 16 up |
| Grade 2 | 12 to 25 | Standard espresso and roast and ground blends for retail |
| Grade 3 | 26 to 44 | Volume blends, vending, and three in one mixes |
| Grade 4a | 45 to 60 | Grade 4a: soluble and extract, 45 to 60 defect values |
| Grade 4b | 61 to 80 | Soluble and instant production where yield matters more than cup |
| Grade 5 | 81 to 150 | Liquid coffee extract and low cost instant lines |
| Grade 6 | 151 to 225 | Industrial extraction, caffeine recovery, and non beverage use |
Frequently asked questions
Ordering, samples, shipping, and payment.
Can the alternate origin be roasted at the same grade and profile?
Yes. Buyers approving this as a second base give us the grade and the target Agtron of their main Sumatra or Java profile, and we match both, then keep the pair on file so a switch needs no new product approval. Minimum is 500 kg per roast profile and grade.
Why qualify a second roasted robusta origin?
Because a roasted programme built on one green origin stops when that origin has a crop or shipping problem. Buyers cup this lot beside their main Lampung or Java base, approve it as an alternate, and keep both profiles on file, so a substitution becomes a scheduling decision rather than a new product approval.
What is the minimum order for this roasted robusta?
500 kg per roast profile, lower than our Sumatra and Java robusta minimums because Nusa Tenggara volume is allocated from a small harvest. Sample roasts of 1 to 2 kg ship by air first, which is normally how a buyer qualifies the lot as an alternate before contracting volume.
How does this roast compare with a dark Lampung profile?
It sits lighter at Agtron 46 to 52 rather than 38 to 44, so it is heavy and clean rather than bitter. That suits markets where a very dark robusta reads as burnt. If you need it matched to an existing dark base, we roast to your target Agtron and hold it as a named profile.
Why does this lot take three to four weeks?
The green moves by inter-island vessel from Flores or Lombok to Java, is re-dried at our mill to correct variable village drying, and only then is roasted and packed. Dispatch is still within seven days of roast, so the additional time sits before the roast and does not reduce shelf life on arrival.
